Summer Camp Programs
Sherwood Forest Camp is committed to providing the highest quality of camp experiences
to children of all racial, ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. During the
summer, we work with children ages 7-16 in one of three programs:

Designed to introduce children to the summer camp experience. Campers follow a
structured schedule of activities that introduce them to the four program areas:
Adventure/Sports, Aquatics, Outdoor Living Skills and Performing & Creative Arts . Some
of the activities include swimming, canoeing, archery, arts and climbing the tango tower. All
activities are designed to emphasize fun and learning about camp. (These are 6-day
sessions)

This program is designed to introduce campers to new skills that camp can teach them.
Through the group process, campers help pick activities that interest them-helping them
learn team work, problem solving, communication skills, decision making, negotiating and
other life skills.

Campers participate in a wide range of group activities such as swimming, canoeing,
archery, outdoor living skills (camping, fire building, tarp shelters, overnights), performing
& creative arts and adventure sports.

To enhance campers' individual choices, they will have the opportunity to participate in
special activities called YO's (Your Option). YO's are special activities offered throughout
the 12-Day session. The YO's may be activities where campers want to improve their skills,
such as: swimming, outdoor cooking, basketball, soccer or working with clay. Some of the
YO's are not normally offered through the regular activity schedule such as: rock climbing
and rappelling, diving, junior lifeguarding, using a pottery wheel or mask making.

Boys and Girls camps are great opportunities for campers, 11 - 13 years old, to work on
and display their leadership skills. Campers, 12-13 years old, who demonstrate strong
positive leadership skills will be invited to enroll in the Leadership Training Program the
following summer. (These are 12-day sessions)

In this program, campers learn to recognize, improve, and use their leadership abilities to
help themselves and others achieve goals. Much of this learning occurs as campers
challenge themselves in a variety of wilderness camping and team building experiences.
Community service becomes an important component in this program, giving campers an
opportunity to work with local, regional and national agencies.

Campers will participate in wilderness trips ranging from 5-8 days in length. Leadership
Challenge and Leadership Trek campers will experience the backwoods and rivers of
Missouri.
