Mary Rogers, the Executive Director of Sherwood Forest, has been involved with the camp for over forty years as a camper, leadership program graduate, counselor, camp director, and since 2002, executive director. Since 1967, her first year as a camper at Sherwood Forest, she has spent just one summer away from camp, when she completed her graduate work in Education at Harvard University. She received an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Webster University, and is a graduate of Leadership St. Louis’ class of ’00-’01. Mary is active with the American Camp Association (ACA) at the local, regional, and national levels. She sits on the Steering Committee for the ACA’s Not-for-Profit Council, and is a member of the National Board Development Committee. Mary is working with a group of Midwest camp professionals to develop the first Student Camp Leadership Academy to nurture the development of college undergraduates’ interest in pursuing careers in the youth development camp profession.

Michael Castulik “PoPs”, the Camp Director, has an undergraduate degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Southwest Missouri State University. He has over thirty years of experience in the residential camp profession. He came to Sherwood Forest from Camp Don Bosco, where he was Assistant Camp Director. He has worked at Sherwood Forest for over fifteen years both as Assistant Camp Director and as Camp Director. Michael is active with the ACA at the local and regional levels. He is an American Red Cross instructor in Lifeguarding and Wilderness First Aid.

Jim Cornbleet, Facilitator of Development, has been with Sherwood Forest for almost five years. He is an accomplished business executive with 35 years of experience in areas including not-for-profit management, fundraising, sales, marketing and finance. He possesses an excellent understanding of the fundraising process with a strong donor orientation. Immediately prior to this position, Jim was with Camp for All Kids for eight years as a member of the Board, as Board President, and then Executive Director. Jim was a camper and counselor at Camp Nebagamon for 6 summers. He holds a MBA degree from Washington University, and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado.

Rob Massa is our Grant Writer. He has an M.F.A. in sculpture from Fontbonne University and a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Washington University. He has over fifteen years experience working in nonprofits, five of them at Sherwood Forest Camp.

Gary Chastain, the Site Manager, is also a Leadership Training program graduate, holds a degree in Environmental Resource Management, and has been affiliated with Sherwood Forest for over forty years.

Maria Pfitzinger, the bookkeeper, has an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Saint Louis University as well as having passed the CPA exam. She has over 20 years of accounting experience including 5 years in non-profit organizations. Before coming to Sherwood Forest Camp, Maria was the controller at COCA, the Center of Creative Arts.

Jenny Thumann is the Director of Development. After graduating from Saint Louis University in 2006 with a degree in Communication and minors in French and Studio Art, she spent a year teaching English in Japan, where she developed her passions for working with children and traveling. Following that, she worked as an au pair in Switzerland. She loves being back in St. Louis, and enjoys using her graphic design and marketing skills to promote Sherwood Forest Camp and its mission.

Addie Bond is our Registration and Administrative Specialist. She has undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Elementary Education from Arizona State University. Before joining our staff in 2004 as the Administrative Assistant, she worked at Camp Kamaji for Girls as the Assistant Director.

Seasonal Summer and Outdoor Education Staff ~ Sherwood Forest Camp is very proud of its staff selected because they enjoy working with children, are enthusiastic, encouraging and love being in the outdoors. Most are college undergraduate and graduate students. We also hire some high school students and recent Leadership Training graduates to work as “junior” staff.

In addition to our staff from the United States, we hire internationally. We have had staff members from many countries: Australia, England, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, and Sweden, to name a few.
