Program outline:
The Leadership Trek program is 21-days. The campers will arrive at camp mid-way
through the first Boys’ or Girls’ camping session and return at the end of the 2nd Boys’ or
Girls’ Camp. Campers prepare themselves by reviewing old skills and learning new skills
such as: swimming, river canoeing, orienteering- including the use of compass and reading
topographical maps, low impact camping, plant identification, water purification and other
outdoor living skills. They accomplish this by planning for and going on backpacking day-
trips and a river trip during the first part of their camping session.

The 8-day trip is comprised of two connected outdoor adventures that together are 60
miles long. The first part is a 4-½ day, 24-mile backpacking trip on the Ozark Trail. The
second part is a 3-½ day river trip down a section of the Current River starting at Owl’s
Bend and ending at Big Springs.

Leadership Trek campers have learned group dynamics, responsibility, relationship
building, independence, confidence, a sense of personal accomplishment and
improvement of camping & problem solving skills.
