Successful interns at Sherwood Forest Camp are people who are good role models. They enjoy working with children in an outdoor environment. They are energetic and creative, possess good problem solving skills; they are open minded, appreciative of diversity and respectful to others. In addition, interns are responsible, honest and trustworthy people. They have the ability to put children's needs first and can live by a set of principles and policies that help to ensure the safety and well being of every member of our community.
Goals
To provide a forum where students can apply their skills and knowledge gained through coursework To provide students with an opportunity to gain relevant work experience in a professional setting
Objectives
Students will work as a member of a team to implement the goals and objectives of the agency.
Students will learn how to trouble shoot and design strategies to solve problems
Students will learn techniques to effectively manage small and large groups
Students will enhance their oral and written communication skills
Students will develop leadership skills through supervisory roles and responsibilities
Eligible Majors:
Students pursuing degrees in all fields of education, sociology, psychology, social work, recreation.
Minimum Requirements: A student with at least a sophomore standing at an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 grade point average.
Length of Internship:
Summer Camp:
Students must agree to work a minimum of two 12- day sessions. (Some positions require a longer time commitment.)
Outdoor Education:
Students must work 6 five-day sessions.

Internship Positions:
Village Directors, Department Directors, Program Instructors and Group Leaders. Room, board, transportation from St. Louis and a stipend are part of the internship package.
SHERWOOD FOREST CAMP INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT
At Sherwood Forest Camp we are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment where interns can grow and learn personally and professionally. Our interns can expect to have:
A professional experience related to their program of study
Assistance with carrying out specific job related functions
An active on site supervisor who will work with them through:
Daily meetings to discuss goals and objectives
Answering questions and provide feedback
Assisting with assignments
Providing direct observations and feedback
An opportunity for professional growth through timely performance evaluations
Help in completing internship paperwork and communicating with the school's internship coordinator
HOW TO APPLY
Prospective interns must submit an application and 3 letters of reference. All candidates will be interviewed either in person or by phone. All candidates must undergo child abuse and neglect screening/criminal background checks or submit a voluntary disclosure statement.
