Addie Bond on Encouraging Children to Connect with Nature

Children who don't get to experience the wonders in the natural world can suffer from what author Richard Louv calls "nature deficit disorder."  Click the KSDK video link to the left to hear Addie Bond, our Registration Specialist, talk about why interacting with nature is so important for today’s children.  You can also get some unique ideas for experiencing nature right here in the St. Louis area!

Mary Rogers on Homesickness

It's hard to believe that the Boys Camp sessions have already concluded and that our first group of girls headed to camp today! We are thankful for the fun and positive experiences that have been had so far, and we look forward to many more in the second half of summer. Click the KSDK video link to hear more about what Sherwood Forest Camp can offer kids, and get Mary's tips for dealing with homesickness.

Mary Rogers on Summer Reading

Did you catch our Executive Director, Mary Rogers, on KSDK last week?  Click on the photo to the left to learn how kids can enhance their reading skills at Sherwood Forest Camp this summer.

Our literacy programs makes reading fun and inviting in the summer months, gives campers reading competence, and motivates them to continue to explore books after camp has ended.

Summer reading in the fun and caring environment of Sherwood Forest helps campers form an emotional attachment to books and to learning.  This attachment keeps them “hooked on” books well beyond the end of their Summer Camp experiences.  They return to school more prepared and better able to manage their academic work.
