 Transforming Lives Through Camp Experiences!

Since 1937, Sherwood Forest Camp (SFC) has served over 30,000 children from the St. Louis metropolitan area.  For more than 70 years, we have been transforming lives through residential camp experiences for children and youth.

The camp is located one hundred miles south of St. Louis on 487 acres outside of Lesterville, Missouri.  It includes forests, meadows, a 15-acre lake, creeks, a mud cave, and nearby state parks.  Camp introduces children to nature, often for the first time, and allows them to discover the beauty, wisdom, and fun of the natural environment.

Sherwood Forest's three major programs are:

  • Summer Camp, annually serving up to 350 children and adolescents ages 7 to 16, predominantly from families living in poverty. Campers from diverse racial, ethnic, religious and family backgrounds live together in a residential camp setting, participate in fun and challenging activities; practice team-building and decision-making skills; develop independence and responsibility; and learn to respect themselves, each other, and the natural environment.
  • Continued Contact, a unique school-year follow-up program.  Campers participate in activities at camp and in St. Louis to extend and strengthen the skills and relationships developed each summer.
  • Outdoor Education programs for schools, school districts, churches and other social service agencies using the professional services of the camp and its staff in the fall and spring.  The campsite can also be rented as a retreat center for those looking for a rustic facility providing opportunities to build group dynamics and strengthen leaders.

Sherwood Forest Camp’s facilities include cabins, a dining hall, multi-purpose building, health center, swimming pool, climbing tower, teams challenge course with certified staff, archery range, campfire circles, and barn which houses programs in the creative arts, performing arts, and outdoor living skills.

All camp activities, from archery to canoeing, are supervised by well-trained staff members who focus on campers’ safety and fun.  Our staff members are excellent role models who have the ability to put children’s needs first.
