The staff at Sherwood Forest Camp range in ages from 17 to 55 years of age. However, the typical staff members is between 17 to 25 years old is a college student, recent college graduate or a high school junior or senior serving in a "junior staff position.

Successful staff at Sherwood Forest Camp are people who are good role models. They like working with children in an outdoor environment, are energetic, creative, possess good problem solving skills, are open-minded, appreciative of diversity, and respectful of others.
In addition, our staff are responsible, honest and trustworthy people. They have the ability to put children's needs first and can live by a set of principles and policies that help to ensure the safety and well being of every member of our community.
The Screening Process
Prospective staff members are required to submit an application and letters of reference. All candidates are interviewed, either in person or by telephone. All U.S candidates must undergo child abuse and neglect screenings/criminal background checks or submit a voluntary disclosure statement.
Camp Site & Facilities
Sherwood Forest Camp is located on 487 acres of wooded and rugged hills and valleys. Our facilities are "rustic" with only the basic amenities. The roads are unpaved gravel and the paths are rocky. Our buildings are well ventilated but not air-conditioned. We walk everywhere we go at camp so staff members must be able to maintain a high level of physical activity.
Housing
All staff members will be assigned to a village. They live in cabins, either with staff members or with campers. All cabins have electricity; one village has cabins with bathrooms, the other villages have a central wash-house. All bathroom facilities have hot water.
Meals
We serve three meals and a light snack every day. Meals are served family style and staff members are expected to eat their meals with the campers. Vegetarian alternatives are offered.
Laundry
Staff members should bring enough clothing to last at least a week (Camper Packing List), including a swimsuit, rain gear, sturdy shoes for hiking, a jacket. The typical camp wardrobe includes shirts, shorts and a couple of pairs of long pants. Laundry service is available at camp.
Transportation
Transportation between the office in St. Louis and camp is available at the beginning and end of each of session for those staff members who require it. Staff members are also welcome to drive their own cars to camp.
Time Off
During the course of the summer each staff member will have a total of 10 days free of duties when they may leave camp.
Salary
All summer program staff are paid according to a salary scale. A person's life/professional experiences skills and qualifications in relationship to his/her job duties determine salary. The salary scale is as follows:
