Adventure is the third level of Leadership Training for 14 year-olds who have completed 8th grade. Leadership Adventure campers must have participated in and successfully completed the Leadership Trek program. The Leadership Adventure program presents campers with opportunities to learn and develop skills such as: budgeting; planning travel, work and leisure time itineraries; planning menus; interviewing; speaking in public; and providing community service to United Way agencies in the local area.
Campers participate in one 26-day session.
July 6 – July 31, 20010 (co-ed)
Leadership Adventure teaches campers to be responsible for others as Counselors In Training (CIT). As a CIT, each Leadership Adventure camper will either live with a cabin group and assist the group throughout the session, or choose an activity department and learn the skills needed to teach a set of activities in that department.
During the first half of the session, Adventure campers will begin the CIT program. With assistance from their group leader(s), they will also plan a visit to St. Louis and a trip to other camps. The planning process will include: community service projects, travel and daily itinerary needs, budget, and menus. The St. Louis and camp visit trips will help campers to become self-motivated team players, and to lead and follow others effectively.
Leadership Trek campers will:
- develop an understanding of, respect for, and appreciation of community service.
- understand the importance of self-motivation and effective teamwork.
- be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills.
- be able to properly motivate others by demonstrating those skills.
- be able to demonstrate their role in emergency situations.
- keep a journal of their experiences. They will use this journal to present a report of their trip to the rest of the Leadership Program.
