Trek is the second level of Leadership Training for 13 year-olds who have completed 7th grade. Campers may still enter the Leadership Training Program at this level. Leadership Trek campers learn more about group dynamics, responsibility, and relationship-building. Trek campers develop greater independence and self confidence. They will have a sense of personal accomplishment and improved camping and problem-solving skills.
Campers participate in a 26-day session.
June 5 - June 30, 2010 (boys)
July 6 - July 31, 2010 (girls)
Leadership Trek campers spend 26 days at camp to review old skills and learn new skills such as: swimming, river canoeing, orienteering (including the use of compass and reading topographical maps), low-impact camping, plant identification, water purification, and other outdoor living skills. To practice, they plan for and participate in backpacking day-trips and an overnight river trip during the first part of their summer stay.
In the second half of their session, they undertake an eight-day trip which, consists of two connected outdoor adventures that together are 60 miles long. The first is a 24-mile backpacking trip on the Ozark Trail. The second part is a river trip down the Current River, beginning at Owl’s Bend and ending at Big Springs.
